horario.
I'm 67 years old, and when the change was
introduced in Spain (when I was a university student of Chemical Sciences) the
truth is that I got used to it on the same day it was produced and therefore I
agreed with it since I believed the argument of its convenience for energy
saving, although I did not study thoroughly whether the alleged energy saving
was real or just a political trick to raise awareness of the need for energy
savings in the face of the impact of rising oil prices at this time .
Over the years my opinion has been changing
progressively, first when I became aware that the alleged energy saving was a
fallacy, although it is certain that the advance of the official time with
respect to the solar one provides a relevant energy saving just when it reduces
the number of hours per year in which you sleep with sunlight and, therefore,
the annual time you are awake when it is night is reduced by the same number of
hours per day , which is the only source of energy savings possible by this
way. For this reason, I wish for Spain, the country where I live, that the
current summer time would be maintained
throughout the year.
Secondly, as my age increases, the number of
days I need for my body be adapted to the time change has gradually increased,
so now I need between two and three weeks to go back to sleep normally when
each hourly change occurs, which means that at present this measure means to me
each year of the order of a month of nights in which I cannot sleep well. A
price too high for not obtaining any economic benefit or improvement of the
single market neither for the EU, neither for my country nor for myself.
I fully agree with the economic advantages of
having the maximum number of countries with the same official time within the
EU and I also think that it would not be good for some countries to change the
time twice a year and others not, although I am in favour of repealing the
obligatory nature of the time change twice a year and, since I don't know the
specific situation of each country according to its latitude, and especially
geographical length, I'm in favour of maintaining the capacity of each Member
State to set its own time zone and, in If there is not a very broad consensus,
give freedom to member states to decide to change the schedule twice a year or,
on the contrary, keep the same time zone all year.
